Holiday cottages in MALVERN, Worcestershire

If you’re looking for holidays off the beaten track, Great Malvern is a hidden gem. The town is wonderfully laidback and ideal for a short break away from the city crush.

With roots dating back to the 11th century, there is plenty of history and culture to sink your teeth into. The absolute must-see spot is the Priory. Now a church, it laid the foundation of Great Malvern back in 1085 and is still the centrepiece of the town. It’s in breathtakingly good condition and is full of fascinating details about both the Priory itself and the surrounding area of Herefordshire.

However, the real star attraction is the nearby Malvern Hills, aka the “mountain range in miniature”. The area is perfect for long walks, with beautiful views from the peaks and abundant wildlife surrounding the slopes.

The Hills are also the source of the famously pure Malvern water. On a walk try seeking out St Ann’s Well, where the water is pulled up through a spout from the rocks below. It’s also the site of a lovely café, which offers vegetarian meals and cakes as well as hot drinks.

The best way to make the most of both the town and countryside is to rent a cottage on the outskirts. A self-catering trip means your time is your own, whether you want to explore or just to enjoy the peace and quiet. It’s the only way to really give yourself a home away from home.
