The pretty, harbour village of Mevagissey in Cornwall is full of cottages to rent and self catering accommodation to holiday in. Just a few miles from St Austell, Mevagissey is a popular place to spend a holiday especially in a rental property rather than hotel.

While Mevagissey itself is quite small, staying in a cottage offers a great base to explore the rest of Cornwall. Just down the road, in the next bay along, is Fowey, an upmarket village with pastel painted houses, plenty of homeware and gift shops and a plethora of cafe’s serving afternoon tea. Readymoney Cove at one end of Fowey is a beautifully scenic cove made of golden sand and rocks. It may be small but on a sunny day it is a lovely place to spend an afternoon, or for those who would rather not get sand in their toes, there are benches on the grass above the cove, which makes a perfect place to sit and watch the view or read a book.

Mevagissey is famous for it’s winding streets and delightful shops and art galleries. If you are considering UK cottages to stay in, picking one in Mevagissey could be a good move. Traditional Cornish ice cream is plentiful in Mevagissey and it is easy to pass an hour watching the boats in the harbour while cooling down with an ice cream.

Just a mile or so away from the centre of Mevagissey is the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Taking a trip to these gardens is a lovely day out for the whole family. You will find stunning gardens, abundance of wildlife and plenty for children to do including play area and school holiday events.
