Known as ‘The Gateway to the Dales’ the quaint market town of Skipton sits at the base of the picturesque Yorkshire Dales. Everything about the town oozes charm, from the narrow cobbled streets to the boats which glide effortlessly along the canal to the dominant ruins of Skipton Castle. From here you can be in the Dales in minutes where stunning scenery and a rich cultural heritage await you.

Within the town of Skipton the 900 year old castle is one of the finest and most complete examples of its kind in the country. The beautiful Tudor courtyard inside the fully-roofed castle is not to be missed. From the quay in the centre of the town cruises along the canal can be enjoyed or you can hire your own boat for a day or week at a time.

In the cobbled streets in the heart of Skipton a traditional market is held four times a week while the Victorian-style shopping arcade Craven Court is home to a delightful selection of small individual retailers and is well-worth exploring.

Beyond Skipton visitors can make the short trip to the beautiful ruins of Bolton Abbey or take an authentic ride on a vintage stream train from Embsay.  For rural beauty and a rich heritage, Skipton has it all.
