Island Life

There are more than 1000 islands of varying sizes in and around Great Britain and although reaching them can sometimes be a challenge, there are many rewards for the intrepid traveller.

Tiny little Puffin Island, Lundy, is big in character if not in size. Charter a private helicopter or take the MS Oldenburg across the Atlantic to this North Devon treasure to spot seals, investigate the old lighthouse, walk the 3 miles of outstanding natural beauty or simply enjoy a pace of life little affected by the trappings of the 21st century.

Along the south coast there’s the nautical Isle of Wight in Hampshire. Famous for it’s sailing races, charter a boat or hovercraft from Southsea and take a sailing masterclass with The Traditional Sailing Company or hit the legendary Isle of Wight festival in June from the comfort of you own bijou holiday cottage.

Tresco in the Isles of Scilly is famous for it’s clement weather and lush tropical flora also the wild Isle of Jura, where you can sample the island’s famous whisky and soak up the literary ambience on the island where George Orwell wrote his classic bestseller, 1984.
