Holiday Cottages in East Sussex, South East England, England
East Sussex is a geographically and culturally-diverse county, offering interesting self-catering cottages as holiday rentals. In the East, Rye offers cobbled streets with quaint shops selling locally produced arts and crafts, plus a rich source of antiques and collectibles. Hastings, some 12 miles' from Rye, is home to the largest beach-launched fishing fleet. The historic Old Town features the Jerwood modern art-gallery, plus some of the most eccentric English festivals such as the Jack-In-The-Green, where morris dancers and 20,000 bikers combine and have a great time! The surrounding areas offer some of the richest selection of castles and historic houses in England. For the nature-lover, the newly-created South Downs National Park situated to the west of Eastbourne, provides 160 kilometres' of walks through ancient woodland, along the breath-taking Seven Sisters chalk cliffs, past the spectacular Cuckmere Meanders and Seaford Head. Further west, Brighton's city vibe presents a different holiday proposition, combining trendy shopping and eating options with Regency architecture and lively events such as the London to Brighton classic car runs scheduled throughout the year from May onwards.
